Match Report: Solihull Moors vs Coventry Sphinx
Solihull Moors Women returned to winning ways with an impressive 3–0 victory over Coventry Sphinx at Studley Sports Centre.
Moors made a bright start, taking the game to their visitors from the first whistle. Georgia Neath found herself in space down the right and flashed a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but there was no one on hand to apply the finishing touch.
The breakthrough arrived after just 10 minutes. Annie Highway opened the scoring in style, unleashing a superb long-range effort that left Coventry Sphinx’s goalkeeper with no chance.
Moors continued to apply pressure and doubled their advantage on the half-hour mark. Gina Burton collected the ball in midfield, drove forward, and rifled a low strike into the bottom corner.
The visitor’s thought they had pulled one back shortly after when the ball found the net, but their celebrations were cut short. Following a discussion between the referee and linesman, the goal was ruled out.

Burton nearly added her second ten minutes into the second half, striking from the edge of the box, but the Coventry Sphinx goalkeeper produced a comfortable save to preserve the two-goal deficit.
In the 57th minute, Moors came close again. Neath delivered an excellent cross that fell to Maz Redmond-Lyon just a few yards out, but the midfielder couldn’t keep her effort down and fired it over the crossbar.
Just past the hour mark, Highway almost grabbed her second of the afternoon. She struck powerfully at goal, only for another solid stop to be made.
The third goal finally arrived in the 72nd minute. Humera Ashfaq reacted the quickest to a spilled shot from Beth Gallagher, tapping home from close range to seal the points.
Ashfaq nearly added a fourth with ten minutes remaining, but her effort struck the post, leaving the score to remain 3-0 at final whistle.
