Match Report: Coventry Sphinx vs Solihull Moors (League Cup)
Solihull Moors Women bow out of the League Cup in the semi-finals as Coventry Sphinx advance to the final.
Solihull Moors started the game well and dominated possession in the first twenty minutes. They carved out the first opportunity within the opening ten minutes as Beth Gallagher whipped a ball into the box that narrowly evaded Grace Cheneler.
However, it was Coventry Sphinx who broke the deadlock in the twenty-fifth minutes, as they were believed to have been brought down in the box and awarded a penalty which Amanda Whalley dispatched.
Moors then struggled to get back into the game. Despite having plenty of possession, they were unable to create any clear chances.

Moors started the second half brightly and the best chance of the game came as Cheneler found herself some space and drove the ball in the box before cutting it back to Humera Ashfaq in the middle, but the Sphinx defence dealt with the pass before she could get a strike away.
Around the seventy minute mark, Zoe Millington made a vital save and tipped the ball over the bar to force a corner, which was whipped towards the back post and headed in by Whalley for her second.
Coventry extended the lead even further with ten minutes remaining as Whalley headed the ball home from a corner to get her third of the match, giving her a hat-trick and sealing Coventry Sphinx’s place in the final.
A final chance opened up for Moors as Gina Burton unleashed a strike from distance but the hosts’ goalkeeper made the save to keep the clean sheet at the final whistle.
