Match Preview: Solihull Moors vs Hednesford Town
Solihull Moors Women return to home soil for the bank holiday weekend as they host Hednesford Town Women at The New Irish Centre on Sunday, August 30 (ko 2pm).
Harry O’Neill’s side secured back-to-back wins with an impressive 3-2 victory at Coundon Court last Sunday. An amazing assist from Lexi Blaxland gave Moors the lead before Megan Holdcroft’s equaliser brought the hosts back level just before the break.
Gina Burton restored her side’s lead early into the second half, but Coundon found themselves back on level terms again courtesy of a penalty perfectly taken by Sophie Shale.
However, Solihull snatched the victory late on thanks to a brilliant strike from Humera Ashfaq, securing their first away win that continues their unbeaten start to the season.
THE OPPOSITION:
Hednesford, who sit just one place below their visitors, have also had a promising start to their 2026/27 campaign. A 1-1 draw away at Port Vale, was later followed with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Coventry Sphinx at Keys Park.
Manager Laura Hodgkiss will be delighted with the performance from her side over the weekend, as the Pitmen look to take one step further from their 7th place finish last season, which also ended in silverware via winning the League Cup.
TEAM NEWS:
There is still a positive environment around O’Neill and his players, with the Moors gaffer full of admiration for his side’s winning mentality that he hopes will extend their unbeaten streak to a third successive match this weekend. Gina Burton impressed again with her quality, making it two goals in her side’s opening two games as she looks to carry on her prolific form.
Likewise, Hednesford boast the attacking options of Hazzana Parnell and latest signing Millie Rogers, who both netted a goal each last weekend. Dolcie Sims, Kate Polyser and Ria Elsmore are other key aspects for the Pitmen, but they’ll also be looking to build the squad further following the recent departures of Em North and Golden Boot winner Leigh Dugmore.
