Match Preview: Coventry Sphinx vs Solihull Moors (League Cup)
Solihull Moors Women face Coventry Sphinx in the League Cup semi-final this Sunday. (2pm KO)
Moors head into the fixture full of determination, aiming to secure their spot in the final.
Their route to the semi-finals saw them over Alvechurch in a hard-fought quarter-final. It was a competitive and demanding game with both sides showing quality. However, Moors resilience and composure under pressure proved decisive as they held their nerve to come out on top in a penalty shootout.
Manager Joe Kirkland has this to say ahead of the fixture:
“Coventry will be a tough test, they are aggressive and will make it hard for us to sustain ourselves in the game. We have to match their aggression and desire to win if we are to progress into the final, something I believe we will do as a squad. We are desperate to win, and have a hunger and desire to make sure we win the league cup”
The Opposition
Coventry Sphinx haven’t found the league campaign easy going this season and currently sit in tenth position in the table with sixteen points. Despite this, their League Cup run has been far more encouraging, and they will be eager to carry that momentum into Sunday’s semi-final.
The one to watch is Kirsty Fansworth, who has netted five goals in eleven appearances, making her a key attacking threat.
