Match Preview: Coundon Court vs Moors
MATCH PREVIEW: SOLIHULL MOORS VS COUNDON COURT
Solihull Moors Women are on the road for the first time this season as they travel to Coundon Court Ladies for their first away match on Sunday, August 23 (ko 2pm).
Harry O’Neill’s side will be looking to make it back-to-back wins following last Sunday’s opening victory over Stourbridge, with Gina Burton and Grace Chelener giving Moors a comfortable lead in the first half.
And despite a second half scare from the Glassgirls’ Maddison Scandrett, substitute Molly Bubb wrapped up the three points late on although Solihull would finish the game with ten following a red card given to Morgan Reeves.
This will be no easy assignment at the Hawkes Mill Sports Club – a venue which didn’t hold great memories for Moors last season, as they lost 3-2 courtesy of a stoppage time winner from Marianne Taho.
THE OPPOSITION
Coundon, who are currently just one place below their opponents, were also victorious during the opening weekend with a 2-1 triumph over Lichfield City, as Sophie Shale’s brace secured a brilliant start to their league campaign.
Manager Matt Bamber will be full of confidence for his side heading into this weekend, as he hopes this victory will help to take them one step further from their strong finish to last season, which guided Coundon to 8th place.
TEAM NEWS
Although admitting they weren’t at their best last Sunday, O’Neill was full of praise for the battling display shown from his side – particularly from the qualities displayed in the pairing of Burton and Chelener during the first half as well.
Likewise, Matt Bamber’s side have the attacking options of Sophie Shale, who won the Manager’s Player of the Season award following a prolific campaign last term, as well as the talented Chloe Cumberbatch who had impressed with her quality during pre-season before moving to Coundon from Moors.
