Moors F&E Are Crowned Champions
Solihull Moors F&E lifted the BCFA Friday League Cup before heading into the weekend, as they left 2-1 winners against Ormiston Football Academy.
The game started quick for both teams, who were trying to get a foot hold in the game and make their mark. However, it was Ormiston who took the lead on the sixteenth minute mark, with a free-kick from the edge of the box, curling over the wall and landing in the bottom corner of the net, just passing the out-stretched arms of Joe Middleton-Clark.
It didn’t take long for Moors to respond positively, and create opportunities for themselves, applying pressure to the opposition as they tried to work their way back into the final.
They carved out a good opportunity with Roman Robinson coming close to leaving the starting blocks as he ran through on goal but was denied by the outrushing keeper.
As he half drew to a close, a penalty chance came for Moors as Robinson was brought down but this was waved away by the referee.
HT: Solihull Moors 0-1 Ormiston Football Academy
Moors came out with a revived, positive approach to the game, and Walton decided a reshuffle was in order to create more problems for Ormiston.
With a change in formation and another striker added, the effect was immediate with Robinson and Ty Weekes using their pace and power to disrupt the opposition’s back line and Evan Brennan behind to pounce on any loose balls.
Within the fifty-five minute mark, a penalty was given to Moors, as the combination of the two attackers allowed for Weekes to be brought down in the box.
Robinson stepped up and slotted the ball past Ormiston’s #1, bringing both teams level.
With the moment lying in the hands of Moors, they dominated the ball and forced the opposition back, causing them to play long which fell straight to the feet of Moors, consistently recycling the ball and going straight back on the attack.
With the referee signalling five minutes of additional time remaining and penalties creeping above the horizon, it was now or never for either team to create something to decide the outcome of the game.
As the clock hit ninety-two, Brennan did well to dribble past the defender and set Robinson in behind the Ormiston backline. Despite the best efforts of the defenders trying to outmuscle Robinson and put him off, it didn’t affect him, as he composed himself and placed his shot across the goal, passing the shot-stopper, and sending it home.
All Moors had left to do for the remainder of the game was defend for the last few minutes left. Ormiston gave everything they had to testing the back four, but Dylan Jones, Oscar Lewin, Jude Brain and CJ Grayson limited their opportunities to even reach Middleton-Clark.
As the final whistle blew, the place erupted and Moors knew they had done it.
